This project has presented me with many challenges. It has even made me question why I chose seascapes as my concentration... But never mind that. I chose this reference image of a photo I took while visiting Cape Perpetua, Oregon in 2015. The composition of this photo is what interested me the most. I like the layers of mountains in the backgrounds, and thought it would add something neat to the painting. Right now, I am only finished with the sky. I used an impasto technique on the clouds and added a blue hue to them, to reflect off of the water. I figured that using impasto in the sky would balance out the impasto that I used to create the grassy texture of the ground. The concept of this piece that is giving me the most trouble though, is trying to create the depth of a cliff overlooking the ocean, and it is very frustrating. I think once I start to add more colors to the waves, I may make the sea foam with modeling paste too, but I'm not sure yet. I am also still trying to decide if I'm going to imply the rocks in the water. Overall, this project still needs a lot of thought and work put into it.
