I've never been good at making portraits look realistic to the actual figure that I'm looking at. My art has a very stylistic feel, and it isn't always realistic. That being said, I liked the flexibility of this project. To add some ease into our lives, we were able to take some shortcuts with these portraits. We could use image transfers, draw free-handed, or use transfer paper to trace the contour lines onto paper or canvas. I chose to use transfer paper and trace the contour lines of my face. At first, I was scared to think outside of the box and add contour lines to indicate shadow, instead of just tracing the prominent lines of my face. As soon as I added the contoured shadows, my piece went from looking cartoonish to a more stylized type of pop art, if that's the term. I wanted to incorporate many colors to my skin tone, and make the line value very prominent. I wanted this piece to look full of motion. I added shades of red and blue to my face and hair, to add some color and make certain features stand out. My favorite part of this piece is the hand, because it's not too noticeable at first, but I love the detail in it with the shadows and lines - and the fact that it took me about two minutes to complete is pretty neat too. That's why I liked this project so much, because it took me a span of two days to start and finish.
